TFA camp for wannabe footballers PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, Oct. 13: They shoot wide off the target and often faltered while dribbling.

But these wannabe footballers would surely over-come these shortcomings after completing their training at the special holiday camp under the watchful eyes of Tata Football Academy coaches.

Besides basics in dribbling, shooting and defen-ding, the young aspirants in the Under-16 category would also be given inputs in personality development, laws of the game, yoga and outing at the special holiday camp organised by Tata Football Academy.

Sanjay Choudhry, the chief of corporate communications of Tata Steel, inaugurated the camp this morning.

Aspirants from Mumbai, Bengal, Goa, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Delhi have turned up for the camp and they are expecting one more from Nagaland tomorrow.

Chief coach of the academy Ranjan Choudhury has prepared the training programme for the camp which would be conducted by P. Vijay Kumar, a former Indian footballer and a coaches with Tata Football Academy.

“Our focus would be mainly on techniques and stress would be put on this aspect at the camp,” said Choudhury.

There would be two sessions from the trainees — morning and afternoon.

“As we do not want to put too much pressure on them the boys would be trained for two hours in both the sessions. They are in formation stage, so putting extra load on them would be of no use,” Choudhury added.

According to Tata Football Academy chief coach, they had to overlook requests from various quarters as they cannot take in too many people together in the camp. “At the most we would can take 30 boys for the camp. We did not want to complicate things by adding more trainees to the list,” he said.

The camp would conclude on October 23. The campers would be handed certificate of training and participation after the conclusion of the camp.

Meanwhile, an 18-member team including three officials from Tata Football Academy left for Gangtok today to participate in the Sikkim Gold Cup football tournament.

The tournament is already underway but Tata Football Academy is scheduled to play its first pre-quarters match on October 17.

Tata Football Academy emerged as the champions in the 2004 edition of Sikkim Gold Cup, defeating Air India in the finals. Defender Raju Gaekwad would be leading the academy outfit.
