Jamshedpur, Dec. 30: Several professional golfers from across the country will be assembling in the steel city for the 2008 Tata Open Golf Tournament. The tournament, which starts off from January 2 to 6 at Beldih and Golmuri courses, will see a former Indian wicketkeeper, Syed Kirmani, and a group of corporate bigwigs taking part. S.S. Chowrasia, Mukesh Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Uttam Singh Mundy and other leading golfers would be competing for the Rs 20-lakh prize money. The event will start with professionals and amateurs playing together (Pro-Am) on January 2. Addressing journalists at Beldih Club today, B.L. Raina, the captain of the Jamshedpur golf outfit, said four school students, Arush Sabharwal, Karan Mourya and Varun Jaiswal would rub shoulders with professional golfers at the Pro-Am event. Some women golfers will also play in the Pro-Am. The main event would start on January 3. Raina, who is the managing director of Tinplate Company, said the tournament was being organised as part of the centenary celebrations of Tata Steel. Chowrasia is the defending champion of the tourney.
