Sportspersons will have to get NOCs from their employers or home state cycling associations before wearing Jharkhand colours for the Games. Anita Kumari would have to get an NOC from Manipur cycling association.

Generally, states and organisations not participating in a meet allow their sportspersons to represent other states.

Secretary of the JCA Satbir Singh said they are interested in recruiting the cyclists. “We are ready to draft them to our squad. The cyclists have been asked to obtain NOCs,” Singh said.

The presence of outstation recruits would certainly increase the state’s medal tally in the Games, he said.

The cyclists opted for Jharkhand as the state has announced cash prizes — between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 1 lakh — to medal winners at the Games, said the senior JCA functionary.

The chances of the railway players coming to Jharkhand are high. “Railways don’t participate in the National Games. So these cyclists have the option to play for the state of their choices,” the JCA secretary said, adding they were expecting at least five to six medals.

Riding cycles from Jharkhand would be home boys Lakhan Hansda, the only international from the state, Dhanbad’s Ram Kumar Bhatt and Anita Kumari.

The four cyclists from outside have represented the country several times. Mohi, Bishno and Anita had represented India at a meet in Malaysia in 2007 while Beena had worn an Indian jersey at a Jakarta meet in 2005.
