Wheels 2008 : Techies’ tryst with culture PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, Jan. 27: The annual cultural extravaganza of Graduate Engineers Trainee of Tata Motors started today.

The annual extravaganza, named Wheels, saw some 200 people taking part in the events. Though the programme is organised by fresh batch of engineers who have been recruited by the company, but students to young corporates everybody took part at the cultural meet at Telco Club.

An inauguration ceremony took place at Telco Club in the morning which was followed by events like painting, collage, fancy dress competition and paper dress contest.

The programme is organised every year as part of the corporate social responsibility initiative. The programme has helped the students in development certain skills, which helped them to shape up their character and in their professional life.

“Like always, Wheels 2008 has once again received an overwhelming response from across the city. We have altogether 33 institutions performing for the event,” said Bhaskar Bateja, a member of the organising committee.

For the first time several city-based cultural and social clubs also taking part in the cultural extravaganza. Telco Club and Sabuj Kalyan Sangh are the two clubs whose members took place at the event. Young corporate officials of Pune, Patnagar, Lucknow, and Singur chapter of Tata Motors also took part in the event.

Beginning today, Wheels 2008 would come to an end on Tuesday. A dozen odd programmes are lined up for coming days. The cultural extravaganza would come to an end with a performance by one of the leading fusion music band of India at the Sumant Mulgaonkar stadium.

Event which are arranged for the forthcoming days are events like treasure hunt, rangoli, mehendi, face painting, eastern and western vocal and Mr and Miss Wheels.

“The Mr and Miss Wheels is the main event of the occasion wherein two bright students would be selected taking into consideration their performance in event,” said a members of the organising committee. The Mr and Miss Wheels would be held tomorrow.

The results of all the events would be announced on Tuesday.

Over 500 are expected to take part in the three day long event.
