Jamshedpur, Jan. 27: They came and rocked the XLRI campus leaving everyone wanting for more. Parikrama, one of the rock and roll bands of the country, regaled the students with their electrifying numbers on the concluding day of Ensemble 2008, an inter B-school festival organised by XLRI. Parikrama, comprising vocalist Nitin Malik, Sonam Sherpa and Saurabh Chowdhary on the guitars, Chintan Kalra on the bass guitars, Dilip Ramachandran on the drums and Imran Khan on violin mesmerised the audience with Iron Maiden, Coldplay and Queen as well as with their original numbers. Talking to The Telegraph, Parikrama manager and keyboard player Subir Malik said although the crowd was small in comparison to other places, they enjoyed every moment of the show as the audience were avid rock lovers. “We were planning to come down to Jamshedpur and play for a long time. Finally, it has happened. The crowd in Jamshedpur is awesome. Due to heavy rain, our show in Calcutta with Saif Ali Khan got cancelled but thankfully everything went along well here,” said Malik. Although Parikrama has been rocking the audience for ages, the band has not lost its appeal. The band members pointed out that the rock culture is fast catching up in the country. “When we started, the scenario was not like this. Few people liked this kind of music. Now, so many bands have come up and they are all churning out good music. It is good to see that,” Malik said. He, however, laid special emphasis on the upcoming regional bands in the country. “There are a lot of regional bands which are coming up. These are helping the entire circuit. Especially, in Bengal so many bands have come up and they are all belting out with good music. People have come to know bands like Fossils, which is a good sign for bands like us,” said Malik. Talking about their future plans, band members maintained that they just want to continue with what they were doing. “Being together as a family and playing music for 17 years is no short feat and it has developed a feeling of camaraderie among us all,” said Malik. The band is also open to composing music for films. “We are open to offers provided we are given the opportunity to do our kind of music. Now talks are on for a show in the US and we are looking forward to it,” added Malik.
