Jamshedpur, Feb. 24: It has been a round-the-clock job these days for the over 200-odd workers from Chandernagore in Bengal who are here to decorate Jubilee Park for the Founder’s Day celebrations beginning March 3. Keeping in mind the centenary year and the Tata traditions of the celebrations each year, special arrangements are being made to make the centenary year a milestone in history. “Lighting decorations are a part and parcel of Tata Steel celebrations each time. But since it is the centenary year, we have been entrusted with lavish decoration of the entire park area,” said S. Chatterjee, the in-charge of the Chandernagore Habul Electricals, which has bagged the contract. To begin with, one major attraction this year would be an 80ft replica of the Eiffel Tower just in the midst of the Jayanti Sarovar. Just next to the lake would also be a lighted model of the College Square swimming pool in Calcutta and over 50 models all along the lake. For the first time, light emitting diodes (LED) — which operate through switch-mode power supply — would be used to decorate the vital locations such as the road in from JN Tata statue and the area near the lake. “The same lights were used to decorate the Bistupur Main Road during the Shatrang carnival. These are actually small torched shape lights which operate through a single switchboard,” said Chatterjee. But amid the plethora of lighting and works all over the park, it is the centenary theme that would be pre dominant. Several large boards of 20x12ft are being constructed right next to the main statue which would depict the milestones covered in the last 100 years. From a large cut-out of JRD Tata to even a lighted depiction of historical MoUs signed by the steel major would be there. “Since the centenary year is also coinciding with the 169th birth anniversary of founder JN Tata, special arrangements are also being done for the occasion,” said officials. Another major theme this time would be daredevil games. A special children’s corner and a traffic corner would also be set up with required traffic guidelines at the spot. The celebrations will continue till March 7.
