Jamshedpur, July 6: Bagging appreciation from people who chose to watch quality filmmaking at “Shorts 08”, a festival of short films, has well justified its name as it left an impact on the movie aficionados. Big budgets and high profile artistes might not be a mandate for successful cinema. Short film festival has proved so with creations from directors who have an unconventional take towards filmmaking. On the concluding day today “Shorts 08” ended with the screening of some good films from directors of critically acclaimed. Tathagata Bhattacharjee, the chief executive officer of Take5 Communications, said: “I am nostalgic about Jamshedpur as I grew here being a student of DBMS English School. I want to do something for the young students of my city in my small way.” said Bhattacharjee. He has come up with plans to continue the film festival once a year. He said: “I am also looking forward to make projects with directors from Jharkhand.” The film festival has been a learning experience for many as films by young directors like Partha Ganguly, Nichita Roy, Brij Mohan Pandey, Abhishek Ganguly among others were screened. City-based director Biyot Projna Tripathi’s film was also screened. Films like Coffee House (English), Coloured (English), Bratya (Bengali) Hawa Mithai (Hindi) and Kathputli (Hindi) drew a good response from audience. “Such short film festivals should be organised in regular intervals. It gives an impetus to the directors as well as the film buffs. I watched almost all the films screened during the two-day festival,” said Kantimoy Chatterjee, a movie buff. Overwhelming response from the audience and backup from Society for Promotion of Professional Excellence and Take5 have made a strong foundation for the Shorts08 festival as everybody was looking forward to it next year which would not only serve quality entertainment but also generate ideas for budding directors.
