Jamshedpur, Sept. 6: Four persons died after consuming spurious liquor at Harijan Bustee in Daiguttu under the Azadnagar police station late yesterday night. The deceased were residents of Daiguttu. They had purchased the liquor from Sonari, sources said. Sale of spurious liquor is on the rise as most liquor shops in the city are closed for over a month. The deceased included Dwarika Prasad and Shankar Kalindi. The two other dead were yet to be identified. Police have also recovered half-empty liquor bottles from Prasad’s residence. Prasad and his friends were drinking at his house. While the host died at his residence, others met the same fate at the MGM Medical College and Hospital, police officials said. Meanwhile, the Mango unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) gheraoed the Mango police station today, demanding closure of all liquor dens in the area. BJP activists led by the Mango unit president Manoj Singh later submitted a memorandum to the officer in-charge of the police station. Singh said if liquor dens in Mango, Olidih and Azadnagar were not closed within a week, the BJP would gherao all the police stations in the city. He alleged that liquor was supplied in abundance to shops in Daiguttu, Azad Nagar, Olidih and Shankosai with police patronage.
