Jeevan pointers to beat stress of board exams PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, Feb. 27: The board examinations are round the corner and suicide prevention centre Jeevan has started thinking about stress-busters that would help students.

The exams are scheduled to begin on March 1 — for ICSE, ISC.

“There are several significant problem areas that ought to be addressed at the earliest. When such cases are not taken care, a lot of adverse effects are felt,” said Mahavir Ram, the director of Jeevan.

While experts prescribe that students be kept absolutely stress free during the exam period, last-minute studies and revisions tend to put pressure on students. Most of the pressure is felt during this last stage.

A word of caution has also come from the experts: children should never be burdened with the expectations of their parents.

Each student would put in his or her best effort to prove to their parents that they are worthy by putting in their best efforts, and this fact should be acknowledged, stress experts said.

“A word of encouragement helps a lot. It actually lifts the motivation level of children,” said Ram.

Apart from ensuring that the right attitude is developed by youngsters during this stressful period, precautions should be taken by parents also.

Sounding a word of caution, experts said all poisonous things be kept at a safe distance from youngsters. “Parents must ensure that their children are at a safe distance from chemicals that can cause a lot of harm,” said Ram.

Apart from concentrating on academics, there is a need to provide them with quality entertainment also.

“Proper care should be taken to keep the young minds them entertained so that they can balance life properly and not feel stressed out just befor the examination,” added Ashok Patnaik, the head of the department of psychiatry at Tata Motors Hospital.
