Cardiac care centre opens, officially

Jamshedpur, March 12 (Source: The Telegraph): Tata Steel managing director H.M. Nerurkar today dedicated the Brahmananda Narayana Hrudayalaya, developed by pioneering heart surgeon Devi Shetty’s team, at Tamolia on NH-33, to the citizens.

Though the hospital started functioning last year, the formal inauguration took place today.

Brahmananda Narayana Hrudayalaya vice-chairman Ashutosh Raghuvanshi and Brahmanand Seva Sadan managing trustee Monobindu Bhattacharya were also present.

Nerurkar hailed the efforts of Brahmanand Seva Sadan, promoted by Srimad Brahmananda Shastri, the founder of Beldih Kalibari for super-speciality healthcare project. “The hospital was a dream project of guru Brahmananda Shastri. Though he is not with us but his dreams have come true,” Nerurkar said at the programme this afternoon.

The senior corporate executive said steps were being taken to overcome power crisis. “The hospital has all modern facilities but power crisis is a major issue. We are really concerned about it and are thinking of some solutions,” he said to the motley gathering.

The super-speciality hospital with 200 beds has state-of-the-art facilities for treating heart and kidney ailments. An investment to the tune of Rs 25 crore has been made for setting up necessary infrastructure in the first phase, including 45 intensive care units (ICUs), cath lab, five operating theatres and 10 dialysis units.

Raghuvanshi said 10 more dialysis units would be installed soon, making the hospital the biggest centre for dialysis procedures in the entire eastern region. Moreover, he revealed that the hospital would come up with another 300 beds with focus on cancer care.

“A new building will come up next to the existing one which will be equipped with facilities for treatment of cancer patients,” he said.

The senior functionary of the hospital said facilities for cancer patients would be part of the second phase of expansion of the hospital. The second phase would also see installation of an MRI scan and a CT scan machine, with an investment of Rs 5 crore.

The hospital, spread over 1 lakh sqft on the outskirts of the city, started cardiac surgeries last year. In November, it started a full-fledged OPD service. So far, the hospital has conducted about 70 cardiac procedures, including angiography and angioplasty. Over 6,000 patients have been benefited from the OPD service.

The hospital has about 30 doctors, including cardiologists and heart surgeons, from Narayana Hrudayalaya and Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences. A few local doctors have also been recruited.
