Jamshedpur, March 9 (Source - The Telegraph): Jamshedpur is all set to spin the desi yarn.
After developing an experiment into a Rs 5-crore industry and setting the trend for other states to follow, Jharkhand State Khadi Village Industries Board now plans to set up the first production unit in Bistupur at an initial investment of Rs 30 lakh.
The unit will benefit 35-40 needy workers, who will earn nothing less than Rs 150 to Rs 200 a day.
“The state khadi board has achieved a lot in the past few years and we want to scale greater heights. Not only do we aim to promote khadi, but also help the needy at the same time. We have been able to expand our market across the country and as the demand for khadi products is growing, a production unit in the state has become necessary,” said board chairman Jainandu, who was in the city on Sunday.
Recently, the Jharkhand State Khadi Village Industries Board earned a pat from Union minister of micro, small and medium enterprises Dinsha Patel, who decided to replicate its business model at all khadi boards across the country.
As pointed out by Jainandu, the proposed unit will be the first-of-its-kind in the state. Equipped with hi-tech looms, it will have the capacity to manufacture 500 outfits a day.
Though the chairman declined to disclose the exact location of the unit, he confirmed that the recruitment and training process for employees would begin in a month. The board will appoint a committee to take care of recruitment. Trainers from Kerala will also be roped in.
“We want to hire people who are needy and have got some tailoring and designing experience. The production unit will be started on an experimental basis. If the model succeeds, we may expand the unit,” said Jainandu.
The Jharkhand State Khadi Village Industries Board has also tied up with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to provide training for inclusive growth to artisans.
