Jamshedpur, July 30: Fear scored over people at the steel city today. Most of the roads were seen empty with less traffic.

The only thing people talked about were serial bomb blasts.

East Singhbhum superintendent of police office had received an email alert on July 27 claiming supposed serial blasts in Jamshedpur at 5pm on July 30. Police have been able to arrest the person who had sent the email but the fear lingers.

Few people went to work, children stayed off school as they thought home was the safest place.

Be it Sakchi or Bistupur, the roads were empty and business suffered for those who dared to open their shops. The Sakchi market that usually is bustling with activities was seen to be empty today.

 
Cops to curb cyber crime, eye on cafés PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, July 30: The serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad have hit the steel city in more ways than one.

The recent email from some terrorist outfit just before the Ahmedabad blasts have made the East Singhbhum district police to keep a tab on cyber cafés in the steel city.

This time, a person visiting a cyber café may have to produce his identity card or get their names registered with the cyber café. It is not only the visitors or users who are under scanner, even the café owners have to obtain licence from the state government or local administration for running it.

East Singhbhum superintendent of police Naveen Kumar Singh will meet all cyber cafés owners of the city very soon and talk with them and find out ways of checking cyber crime. The cyber café owners would be given a stipulated time within which they have to get their cafés registered and obtain the licence otherwise they would be prosecuted and their cafés would be seized.

 
Rs 1.5-lakh liquor seized PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, July 30: A team from excise department seized 58 boxes of Indian-made foreign liquor bottles after raiding a godown near a residential complex at Bhatia Bustee in Kadma this morning.

The cost of the confiscated liquor was estimated to be about Rs 1.5 lakh. With various leading liquor brands, it was found out that the seized bottles were manufactured in Rajasthan and Chandigarh and apparently meant for illegal sale in the steel city, where the liquor selling is presently on hold.

Acting on a tip off, sub-inspector of Jharkhand excise Ajay Sharma led a team of officials from the department and raided the godown near Jaiprabha Complex at Bhatia Bustee in Kadma. The shutter was pulled down so the team entered the godown from the back door. On entering the place, the excise officers found boxes containing Indian made foreign liquor of various brands. The police could not find anybody there and it is suspected that the person in charge of the godown fled from the place after he got to know about the raid.

 
Real estate rates to soar PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, July 30: Registering a flat in the steel city is set to get dearer with the registration department deciding to revise the existing rates for the second time in six months.

The new rates would come into effect from August 1 and would inch northward by around 5-7 per cent from the existing registration rates.

Confirming the notification, assistant registrar Sujeet Kumar said that the revision has been made after recommendation from the state government. Earlier, the registration department used to revise the rates once in two years. Six months ago, the registration rates in East Singhbhum had increased by around 20 per cent. Sources in the registration department said that the sharpest hikes in registration rates would be around Bistupur, the main market area.

This hike, many said, was expected as registration rates in this part of city were left unchanged for two and a half years.

 
Steel city celebrates JRD birthday with fervour & scores of events PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, July 29: It was JRD Tata’s 104th birth anniversary and the city was seen celebrating the day with zest and gusto. Festivity gripped the steel city and its citizens participated in the events organised by Tata Steel today.

On one hand there were sports events, which form a major part of Tata Steel activities and on the other there were social works like health camp for underprivileged girls, team building and youth leadership development camp.

The celebration started in the morning by paying homage to the legend at JRD Tata Sports Complex. It was followed by a thematic exhibition inaugurated by Tata Steel vice-president (corporate services) Partha Sengupta.

The sports events started from July 26 and came to an end today. The results of the events which took place during the four-day extravaganza were declared today.

Zeal and enthusiasm were at premium as boys and girls took part in the inter-school cross-country race in the morning.

Sunny Gondua of St Robert’s School, Parsudih, won the 3km junior boys’ title while Dikha Aloke of the same school bagged the senior girls’ title. In the 5km race for senior boys, Ranjit Kumar Singh of SDSM School for Excellence bagged the first slot defeating Shailesh Hembram of St Mary School.

Sunita Murmu St Robert’s also stamped its authority on the 2km race for junior girls putting it across Motilal Nehru Public School athlete.
