Internet services badly affected in Jamshedpur
January 31 : Extensive damage to two undersea cables has thrown Internet activity across large parts of India, Asia and the Middle East, out of gear and it has impacted Jamshedpur also badly. According to reports, a ship anchoring off Egypt's Alexandria coast cut through the Indian-owned FLAG and also the SEA-ME-WE cable on Wednesday, leading to an unprecedented disruption in international connectivity.
Indian Internet services were badly hit because the damaged cables are a channel for traffic to the United States and Europe.Although repair teams have rushed to the Egyptian coast to fix the problem and a 'low grade' service is likely to be activated soon, full restoration might take up to a fortnight.
Jamshedpur, Jan. 30: Over a month is left for Baba Ramdev to visit steel city but he has already begun to hold sway over the residents of the city.
Entry coupons of Baba Ramdev’s camp are selling like hot cakes, as yoga enthusiasts don’t want to miss the opportunity to meet the man with healing powers.
So far over 3,000 entry coupons have been sold from various sale counters in the city. Demand for coupons as well as enquiry about the camp is trickling into the office of Yog Vigyan Shivir Samiti (YVSS), the organiser of the camp.
“Response to the camp is very positive. The volume of sale suggests that all 8,000 entry coupons will be sold out before start of the camp,” said Muralidhar Kedia, the secretary of the organising committee.
The camp will be held at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur from March 9 to 14, from 5am to 7.30am. Baba Ramdev will also answer the problems of the people through tele-conferencing from 8pm to 9pm.

Ocean roots for Indian tradition
Jamshedpur, Jan. 30: At a time when many Indian bands are heavily drawing from western music, Indian Ocean is happy to be different
The band was here to perform at Wheels 2008, the festival organised by Graduate Engineers Training Club of Tata Motors.
Indian Ocean was here with its entire set up, which includes Ram, Susmit Sen, Asheem Chakravarty, other percussionists and Amit Kalim at the drums and dabgubi.
The band which has been part of Bollywood films, including Black Friday , believes that for inspiration one need not look to the west or elsewhere.
And going by the way it left the audience craving for more, it was clear the band had indeed done well to draw from Indian culture and tradition.
Fair to showcase varied cultures
Jamshedpur, Jan. 29: Over 200 artisans from across the country would showcase their products at Swadeshi Mela scheduled to start from February 1.
It will be organised by Centre for Bharatiya Marketing Development (CBMD), a wing of Swadeshi Jagran Manch. The mela aims to draw the limelight towards 100-odd artisans from different states of India who cannot afford to go for publicity.
“Bigger companies can easily publicise their products in the market, but lack of publicity deprives small-time entrepreneurs. So, we decided to use Swadeshi Mela as a platform,” said CBMD regional co-ordinator M.K. Singh.
