Jamshedpur, June 29: The mood was tense and the atmosphere at the Hotel Citi Inn crackled with excitement.

Reason: the auditions for the most-awaited dance event Nach Baliye took place at the steel city hotel on NH-33 from 11am today.

The event, which provided a platform for many talented youths to tap their feet to popular beats, was organised by Nicco Jubilee Park.

Steel city-based singers Ajay Chakraborty, Shoma Chakraborty and Amit Gorai judged the audition.

The buzz that could distinctly be heard on hotel premises broke out in a frenzy as power-packed performances followed one after another during the audition that was on till the filing of this report.

 
IMA elections begin PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, June 29: About 47 per cent polling was registered during the annual elections of the Jamshedpur chapter of Indian Medical Association here today.

Altogether, 331 IMA members cast their votes. The local chapter of IMA has a membership strength of 700. The elections took place on the premises of the Institution of Engineers in Sakchi.

Counting was on at the time of filing the report. IMA officials said that the results would be declared late in the night.

Two senior doctors — A.C. Akhouri and A.K. Lal — were in the fray for the president’s post. Akhouri is the current president of IMA.

There were two contenders — Mritunjay Singh and Hari Prasad — for the post of the general secretary.

K.K. Chaudhary, A.V.K. Bakhla and R.P. Thakur contested for the post of vice-president while four candidates — O.P. Patro, R.N. Rai, A.K. Arya and Ashok Kumar were in the fray for the post of joint secretary.

Two posts have been allotted for vice-president and joint secretary. Nakul Chaudhary and M.M. Agarwal had filed nominations for the post of treasurer.

 
Residents plead for ‘safe’ living PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, June 29: Local residents in a joint petition to the deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum today registered a complaint against an engineering unit for blocking a public road and a drain at Mangal Colony in Dimna Bustee along NH-33 in Mango.

As the deputy commissioner was not in his office, they submitted the petition with the office of additional deputy commissioner Rakesh Kumar.

The residents said they were wary as the engineering concern, MW Industries, which is on an expansion spree, has allegedly been trying to intimidate them (the residents) for buying out their houses.

 
NGO eye on second Kharkai bridge PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, June 29: Jan Kalyan Morcha, the NGO that forced the state to give a nod for second road-bridge over Kharkai, is taking its task of monitoring the construction seriously.

For this, it has set up a special cell to monitor bridge construction work after Mangotia Constructions, a construction firm, entered into the bridge-construction agreement with the state government.

The monitoring cell will comprise civil engineers, advocate and social activists. It will also include representatives of various political parties in its panel.

According to sources in the public works department (road construction), the designing of the road-bridge would be finalised soon and spade work for bridge construction will begin. Sources said the proposed road-bridge, estimated to be set up at a cost of about Rs 15 crore, has to be completed in 18 months from the time of commencement. The construction work will begin at the end of this year.

 
Upgrade demand on rail body lips PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, June 29: The Chhotanagpur Passengers’ Association today reiterated its demand of implementation of the Kandra-Namkum link railway line.

The members of the association passed a resolution in this regard at its annual general body meeting held at the Chambers Bhavan today. The members took an unanimous decision to pressurise the railways for executing the project that would reduce the travelling time between Jamshedpur and Ranchi.

The association also demanded introduction of a day train between Ranchi and Howrah via Tatanagar and a train between Noamundi and Buxar via Tatanagar. They also demanded replacement of broken air-conditioners in AC coaches of important trains including Steel Express, Janshatabdi and Howrah-Sambalpur Ispat Express.
