Jamshedpur, April 29: The East Singhbhum district administration’s decision to change school timing keeping in view the scorching heat has proved to be a bane for the traffic flow in the steel city. Heavy vehicles like trucks, trailers and dumpers can ply on the roads of the steel city between 9am and 12.30pm, 3pm and 5.30pm and from 10.30am till 6am. The no-entry timing of the heavy vehicles were scheduled earlier keeping in mind the previous school timings. According to the new directives of the district administration, the schools are getting over at 10.30am, when the heavy vehicles are commuting on the road. As a result, the schoolchildren are facing the brunt of heavy traffic flow. Frequent traffic snarls in front of the schools have become a common feature. Even chances of accident are more.

Jamshedpur, April 29: Information blended with a lot of fun: that is what promises to keep children studying at both the schools run by Jusco busy from today. The school authorities have incorporated the latest tech-savvy method of imparting education to children by using modules designed by Educomp Solutions Limited. With five classrooms at South Park School and three at Kadma School being designed to conduct the technology-oriented classes, the schools are happy with the feedback taken from the schoolteachers alone. “It is a very innovative concept designed with the objective to make classroom studies more interesting, rather than make them concentrate on textbook learning, the effort is on developing their concepts right from the formative years,” said Madhu Singh, the principal of both the Jusco schools. In each of the eight classrooms, the blackboard has been replaced by a sliding digiboard, which acts as the perfect cover of the TV screen which doubles as the display board. Connected to the main server, each teacher gets to choose the modules according to their requirement from the available database of more than 40,000 pieces on as many as 12 subjects.

Jamshedpur, April 28: Tennis, in the state, is on a roll. And officials are trying to ensure that the phase continues. If increased participation in national tourneys, three state cadets making it to the top 50 rankings in India, exchange programmes with top players of neighbouring states scheduled in May were not enough, state officials will now explore tennis talent in schools. State officials as well as those under Jharkhand Tennis Development Scheme (JTDS) now want to initiate mini tennis in city-based schools. Their objective is to tap talents at the grassroots level and provide them training under experts. Officials said that they would approach the different schools to discuss a suitable time without disturbing the routine. “We can take the lunch time or post-school session and organise mini tennis matches and see how the children fare. There would be experts watching and those having the talent can be taken up and given further training to make them into better players,” said an official.
