Jamshedpur, Dec. 26: Abhisekh, Randeep and Smita need no introduction to residents of Jamshedpur. It’s their voice people get to hear when they tune in on Big 92.7, the city’s first FM radio channel. It is with them people start their days with Big Chai and make us say Hello Zindagi in the afternoons. As they bond with the listeners, sharing their stories and anecdotes, each of them have interesting stories of their own, too. Abhishek and Smita are from Jamshedpur, while Randeep, who was formerly a RJ with Red FM in Calcutta, moved to Jamshedpur just two months ago.

Jamshedpur, Dec. 25: The uproar over the installation of MP Sunil Mahto’s statue on Ganesh Puja Maidan in Kadma can soon snowball into a major controversy. The slain MP’s widow, Suman Mahto, today went ahead with the installation work though a prohibitory order under Section 144 is effective at the disputed site. The Utkal Durga Puja Committee also threw its hat into the ring, where the BJP and the JMM are getting ready for an apparently major face-off. The committee members declared that they would lay the foundation stone for a Durga temple near the upcoming statue, which is reportedly being constructed on an encroached plot. Around 11.30am, Dhalbhum subdivisional officer Ranjan Chowdhury claimed that the construction work on the disputed site has been stopped.

Jamshedpur, Dec. 25: The steel city has a new guest this Christmas.A 5ft statue of Mother Mary was brought from Mexico and installed at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Telco earlier this month by sisters of the church. “The parish is named after Mother Mary’s particular form and her vision has given birth to this Church,” said Father George Manarakan, the vicar-general of the diocese, while explaining the need for the statue. Meanwhile, lots of fun and revelry heralded in Christmas in the steel city this year.At St Joseph’s Cathedral in Golmuri, a golden jubilee memorial tower was inaugurated on the parish premises to commemorate 50 years of the church in the city. Inaugurated by Bishop Felix Toppo, a Christmas gathering cutting across all communities, was held this evening.

Dec 26,जमशेदपुर। पूरा शहर 31 दिसंबर की रात जब क्लब-बार में पीने-पिलाने के दौर के साथ नाच गाकर नववर्ष आगमन की खुशियां मना रहा होगा, तब सिख समुदाय के लोग पूरी रात गुरुवाणी गाकर 'नवां साल गुरु जी दे नाल' मनाएंगे। इस बार नया साल सिखों के लिए दोहरी खुशी लेकर आ रहा है। इस साल जहां उन्हें श्री गुरु गोविंद सिंह जी के शस्त्रों व बाबा दीप सिंह जी द्वारा हस्तलिखित श्री गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब जी के दर्शन करने का मौका मिलेगा, वहीं पाश्चात्य सभ्यता की कूल्हा मटकाऊ संस्कृति के बजाये सिखों को गुरु महाराज के चरणों में बैठकर नये साल के स्वागत का सुख लूटने का अवसर प्राप्त हो रहा है।

Jamshedpur, Dec. 25: Those rickety police jeeps are passé. Enter swanky cars — for patrolling and investigating. These days, some of the more enterprising men in khaki here are chasing criminals in Taveras, Boleros and Tata Sumos. But make no mistake, the Jharkhand police do not have any provision for swanky cars for any police station. The luxury vehicles being used by the policemen are either seized from criminals during operations or are those lying in the police station premises after seizures by finance companies. At Kadma police station, there’s a cream Tavera that’s been parked. At times, the officer in charge of the police station, sub-inspector Ranjit Roshan, uses it.
