Jamshedpur, April 25: The preliminaries of the Frank Anthony All-India Inter School Debate Competition, 2008, were held in the city today. While the junior section event was hosted by Rajendra Vidyalaya, the Plus-Two category was held at DBMS English School. The event at the junior section saw 10 teams vying for the top slot, while a seven teams fought it out at the senior-level. Teams got together in the city from across Jharkhand, including Ranchi and Patna, while a team from Patna took part in the senior-level category. The junior section comprised participants from Classes VIII, IX and X. Deliberating on the subject “Today’s youth are psychologically unstable”, the speakers spoke at length on their views on the same. An Indian Council of Secondary Education (ICSE) annual event, the preliminaries are to be held in different cities in the eastern zone, which will be followed by the second stage, the semi-final and lastly, the final. At Rajendra Vidyalaya, each team was represented by two participants, one speaking for the motion and the other against. The senior speakers debated on “Young people are too involved in chasing material goals and have no social responsibility”. The council is yet to declare dates for the next rou- nd of the national-level debate.
