Jamshedpur, July 24: “The show has just begun, fasten your seat belts as we take you on a thrilling ride,” announced Varun Jaiswal, the school president of Little Flower School.

The ride, as he called it, on the first day, was indeed thrilling for both participants and audience at the annual festival — Odyssey — of the Little Flower School. Principal Helda D’Souza inaugurated the festival. Student council members, who were the chief organisers of an event, began the celebration with a bang.

Council members, namely Varun Jaiswal, Aishwarya, Astha, Avantika Singh, Abhi Pandey, Atrayee Dua, Stacey Anne Xavier, Ankita Sarkar, Yatish, Ashish Kumar, Tusshar and Zeeshan, performed to the hit Bollywood song — Mauja hi mauja — that made the audience get on their feet and join them. The first contest of day was the quiz show, with a mind-boggling array of questions and an exciting buzzer round. Abhi Pandey, the member of the student council, donned the quizmaster’s hat for this event.

However, the most-awaited event of the day followed the quiz. Atrayee Dua, the captain of the yellow house, and one of the event organiser introduced the choreography round. “Friends hold your breath as we are now presenting the choreography round that will make you tap your feet and make your spirits rise,” Dua said. Bollywood dominated the event where students danced to popular tracks such as Mind blowing Mahiya and songs from blockbusters such as Cash, Dhoom 2 and Tashan.

As always the best was kept for the last. Boys of Class X came up with a foot-tapping choreography based on songs of Backstreet Boys that made the “spirits rise” indeed, as Atrayee had suggested. When excitement was at its peak, red house captain Stacey Anne Xavier brought the mercury down in the auditorium. “Music which depicts the rays of moonlight streaming in a king’s palace, music which brings into mind the long forgotten majestic darbar. Friends, I’m here to take you on that musical expedition” — and the eastern vocal group competition followed.

From Indian classical music to folk songs, the audience was treated to the sounds of Rajasthan, Bengal and Maharashtra. The day’s events ended on a light note with the Ad Mad show. Teams were asked to design comical advertisements for the product that were given to them. What followed was a bit mad and a lot of fun as students presented their ideas of baby diapers, toothpaste and fairness creams.

The festival was not only to whet hungry minds, but the stomach, too, as kiosks selling pastries, ice-cream panipuri, soft drinks and Chinese dishes were ready for the revellers.
