Jamshedpur, Feb. 24: The curtains came down on college fest Utkarsh ’08 with some quality, foot-tapping music. The entire campus of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Adityapur came alive thanks to Calcutta band Nucleus, who churned out popular numbers one after another to keep the audience swinging. Though specialists in performing English numbers, their show this evening at the college was a fair mix of English and Hindi songs. Competitive rounds preceded the pulsating music performance by the band. While there was Alaap, an eastern solo round where youngsters crooned to songs from Hindi chartbusters, the eastern band round saw musicians take to the dais with a zeal to put their musical abilities to test. The western band category tested the ability to churn out original compositions. Marked by the presence of teams from NIT, Raipur; St Xavier’s College, Ranchi, and three teams from Calcutta, a host of city based colleges also took part in the much awaited annual event of the college. A general quiz, dumb charade and a number of skits also kept the audience hooked. Saturday’s events at the fest was marked by fun thanks to Khayali of the Great Indian Laughter Challenge fame putting up a rib-tickling performance. A mock Parliament and street plays were also immensely popular.
