TCS seals record job deal with NIT students PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, July 24: One hundred and fourteen students have bagged lucrative job offers in the first six days of the annual campus recruitment at Adityapur-based National Institute of Technology (NIT) here.

Four companies so far have visited the campus where the recruitment programme for 2005 began on July 18.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) emerged as the highest recruiter in the history of placements at NIT. The company, which was the first to take part in the placement process, picked up 76 students from various streams of engineering. Global consultant firm Accenture selected 18 students out of 150 applicants. Accenture offered an annual package of Rs 3 lakh while TCS offered Rs 3.15 lakh.

L&T Limited picked up 17 students while Telcon, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, selected three. The companies offered annual packages of Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 4 lakh, respectively.

IT giant Wipro conducted written tests for 100 students today. The results are awaited. About 50 companies are expected to take part in the campus recruitment programme, which will continue till next March.

“The campus recruitment began on an impressive note. We are hopeful of securing 50 per cent placements over the next few months,” said N.K. Narayan, the training and placement officer of NIT.

According to him, the batch size for campus placements comprises 300 students from various branches including MTech, BTech and masters in computer applications.

Narayan said that several leading software and core sector companies have confirmed participation in the recruitment process.

“We have taken all necessary measures for the smooth conduct of interviews. Provisions have also been made for online placements,” he said.

NIT sources said, so far, around 30 companies have confirmed participation in the placement process — some of them being TVS Motors, Computer Sciences Corporation, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Tata Motors and Defence Research and Development Organisation.

Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco) and Tata Motors would participate in the placement process, too.
