Jamshedpur, Feb. 25: Over 200 students of Jamshedpur Women’s College gathered near the institution’s gates this morning to protest against Archana Singh, the elected student union president of the college, for creating trouble on the premises. The students alleged that since the union polls their college has been facing problems, one after the other, and blamed the president for them. “We elected her believing that after 25 years we will have a representative who will take up our issues with the higher authorities. Every day Archana and her supporters create problems. We want Ranchi University (RU) authorities to remove her from the president’s post immediately,” said Sharmistha Chand, a BEd student at the college. The move comes in wake of an indefinite hunger strike call by Archana against authorities and the administration’s apathy towards the poor infrastructure of the college. “Classes get disturbed because of her ‘protests’ and a number of boys are seen within or outside the campus area because of all these ‘political’ unrest. We want to put an end to all these,” said Dolly Kumari, a student. The students have started a signature campaign against Archana and their signed request for the leader’s dismissal would be sent to the governor, the human resources development department and university authorities. College principal Shukla Mohanty said: “We are tired of this political interference and nuisances. We want the university to intervene in the matter immediately.”
