Jamshedpur, April 29: A last-minute decision from the CBSE came to the rescue of about 300 students in the city during the All India Engineering Entrance Examination this morning. For the first time, the board allowed the aspirants to download their admit cards from the Internet. The 300-odd students had not received their cards till this morning due to a postal delay. “Since a large number of students failed to get the admit cards, the board, for the first time this year, had given the students an option to download it from the Internet. This was verified by the respective centre coordinators before the exam,” said Vipin Sharma, principal of Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, one of the examination centres. “Out of the 550 students, about 32 did not receive their admit cards till this morning,” said Alka Arvind, principal of Valley View School in Telco, another centre. Out of the 10 centres in Jamshedpur, almost 30 students faced the problem. Though the cause for the delay remains unknown, schools claimed that it was due to postal problems. “Prior to this, in such cases, students had to submit an undertaking. But this year the download system has made the process much easier and less time-consuming,” added Sharma. Valley View was made a centre for the examination for the first time. Another school added to this list is Shiksha Niketan in Telco. Earlier, Jamshedpur had eight centres for the exam. About 6,500 students appeared for the examination. A three-member CBSE squad visited the centres during the examination.
