Jamshedpur, Oct. 13: The renovation of Dimna road —the gateway to the steel city — would be complete by March next year. When complete, the road would offer six well-lit lanes to vehicles entering the city through National Highway 33. It would ease traffic coming from Ranchi, Ghatshila, Purulia, Dhanbad and Bokaro. The project began four months ago when Tata Steel doled out Rs 35 crore and Jusco agreed to undertake construction work. Till date, 25 per cent of the work has been completed. The renovation includes widening of roads, installing streetlights on both sides, preparing the drainage system and constructing culverts at several places. “The construction work is going on in full swing. While widening the road we have ensured that people residing on either side of it do not face any problem. We are also going to ensure proper drainage system,” said Jusco managing director Sanjeev Paul. Though the project was facing some hurdles due to roadside shops near Mango Chowk, company officials said that they were working with the district administration to ensure that encroachers do not hamper construction work. “The list of roadside shops has been made. We have decided on two places near the Subernarekha river, besides the Jamshedpur Worker’s College, that would be given to shopkeepers displaced because of the road widening project. The district administration is working towards shifting the shopkeepers from the construction site,” added Dhalbhum sub-divisional officer Ganesh Kumar. Paul said that so far the shopkeepers have been co-operating. “They are aware that they should move away from the place because after the widening of roads the traffic flow would ease and the project would benefit everybody in the long run,” he added.
