Compensation ends Jusco project crisis PDF Print E-mail

Jamshedpur, Aug. 27: Companies are fast realising that compensation is the only way to satisfy angry villagers.

The Rs 100-crore power project of Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco) will now be implemented after officials decided to compensate villagers with Rs 4,00,000.

The villagers of Sundarhatu near Govindpur have allowed the high tension overhead wire to pass through the area. The decision was taken at a tripartite meeting between the East Singhbhum district administration, Jusco and the villagers of Sundarhatu at the office of sub-divisional officer of Dhalbhum Ganesh Kumar today.

“Residents, whose homes are situated on the path of the overhead wire would be given Rs 10,000 each as compensation. Jusco has also agreed to compensate the villagers,” Kumar said.

The company would soon distribute Rs 4,00,000 as compensation among the 40 families that would be affected by the overhead wire. Jusco is expected to start the installation tomorrow.

Besides the initial compensation amount, the company has also agreed to bear the expenses of any accidents during the installation process.

“The company has agreed to take responsibility of victims and bear medical expenses in case of accidents,” said Kumar.

Last Friday, the villagers protested against the installation of the overhead wire and stalled the installation process. Jusco officials also feared untoward accidents.

The situation was brought under control after the police intervened and assured a meeting between company officials and the residents of the area. Failing to reach any conclusion, the villagers, Jusco officials and the East Singhbhum district administration called a tripartite meeting.

The villagers have constructed houses on encroached government land.

Jusco officials present in the meeting said the high tension (33 KVA) lines to be installed by the company are necessary to feed its newly constructed sub-station at Gamharia. The company proposes to feed its sub-station through electricity from the Jojobera unit of Tata Power.

Protests by villagers posed a major hurdle in the project, which aims at catering to the power demands of domestic and industrial consumers in Seraikela-Kharsawan by the end of this year. Adityapur industrialists are looking forward to this project, which would generate more power in the industrial hub.
