Jamshedpur, Oct. 7: Emergency measures for traffic control and extra precaution may give drivers of two-wheelers plying on the Kharkai bridge hard times this year. The Seraikela-Kharsawan police has made elaborate security arrangements on the Kharkai bridge, in view of the large turnout of devotees heading for the Jairam Youth Sporting Club pandal at Adityapur. Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of police Laxman Prasad Singh said that the movement of heavy vehicles would be blocked from 4pm to 6am. Four-wheelers would be barred entry from 4pm each day and the police may also block movement of two-wheelers during peak hours. “The decision to ban two-wheelers would be taken after assessing the crowd. If the number of people becomes unmanageable, we will ban the movement of two-wheelers,” added Singh. The district administration has also made special provisions to control the movement of traffic at Adityapur. In case crowd movement becomes unmanageable there, the vehicles, including two-wheelers, coming from Jamshedpur would be stopped from crossing the bridge. Similarly, the two-wheelers coming from Kandra and Adityapur would also be barred entry. This year the administration has also divided the bridge into two, using barricades, in an effort to control the movement of traffic and crowd better. A number of police officers have been posted for traffic management at all points. About 38 magistrates have been deputed at Adityapur and RIT police station for special puja duty. For the first time the district administration is taking the help of metal detectors in puja pandals. Closed-circuit TV cameras have been installed at various places for keeping an eye on devotees thronging the pandal.
