Jamshedpur, Jan. 29: Over 200 artisans from across the country would showcase their products at Swadeshi Mela scheduled to start from February 1. It will be organised by Centre for Bharatiya Marketing Development (CBMD), a wing of Swadeshi Jagran Manch. The mela aims to draw the limelight towards 100-odd artisans from different states of India who cannot afford to go for publicity. “Bigger companies can easily publicise their products in the market, but lack of publicity deprives small-time entrepreneurs. So, we decided to use Swadeshi Mela as a platform,” said CBMD regional co-ordinator M.K. Singh. The six-day fair would also serve as a platform to promote everything that is indigenous. “Almost all states have confirmed their participation in the fair. NGOs, corporate houses, real estate developers and other social organisations will also take part,” added Chaudhary. From Kashmiri craft to Punjabi Phulkari and from Mangalgiri cotton to cane and Saharanpuri furniture, the mela will promote cultures from different states. Apart from the variety of stalls, each day of the fair has been divided into three broad sections where different events would be held. To begin with several competitions for school and college students have been lined up on two days and on other days different cultural programmes like Chhau performance is on the itinerary. Folk dance and puppetry will also be organised.
