Silent tribute to Mumbai victims

Jamshedpur, Nov. 30 (Source-The Telegraph): As they lit candles for victims of the Mumbai massacre, emotions — a mix of anger, fear and sorrow — were palpable among steel city residents.

People from all walks of life took part in the Saheedon Ko Naman, organised by the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Bistupur roundabout this evening.

And most blamed politicians for the attack on Mumbai and praised the armymen and commandos for their valour.

“It is time we stop worrying about those who came by boats and worry instead about people who arrived by votes. It is the politicians who have let the country down on so many occasions. This time, too, they failed to take action on time for preventing the attack,” said an angry vice-president (trade and commerce) of the association Alok Choudhary.

Apart from businessmen, Tata Steel officials, social workers and residents also paid floral tributes today.

Cops to field commoners for informer jobs

Jamshedpur, Nov. 30 (Source-The Telegraph): Harish Singh’s dubious act has spelt doom for police informers in East Singhbhum.

Police officers in the district have been asked to stop taking help from informers and start building rapport with common people in localities to gather information.

Harish was a criminal who turned into a police informer and used to have a good relation with the officer in charge of Telco police station, Pradip Chowdhury. But after Harish falsely implicated two youths in an Arms Act case, the district administration took the decision to stop taking help of such informers.

Strokes of genius on steel city canvas

Jamshedpur, Nov. 30 (Source-The Telegraph): Art can be more than just a hobby, it can be a way of earning bread, believes an artist from Orissa Manas Ranjan Jena.

A faculty member of BK College of Arts in Bhubaneswar says art can be taken as a career and it is high time people start thinking out of the box.

At an art workshop organised by Society for Promotion and Professional Excellence and Jamshedpur School of Art for the first time, Jena was present to offer tips to the 100-odd children in nuances of art. Apart from training the kids in finer aspects of art, the workshop was aimed at making the parents understand that their wards can up art as a profession as the returns are equally good.

  • Jaspal Sing : Why blame our politicians? Let us blame ourselves for the situation we find ourselves in. If we want this state of affairs to change, then that change has to first happen to ourselves; that change has to first happen within ourselves. The politician understands only one language - that of the ballot. He knows who will vote and who will not.
  • Jaspal Sing : Why blame the politicians for what happened in Mumbai? Why blame them for continued inaction? They are doing only what it takes to get themselves re-elected. The fact is that most of us - the educated elite and the educated middle class - do not vote, or vote on the basis of religion and caste. So we get what we voted for - no action on things that matter to us or decisions based on religion and caste and not security, facilities or the rule of law.

  • Dr Mohankum : Dear all, Rajdeep is quite obviously the best candidate for Indian Idol. This opinion is shared by the judges unanimously too. Yet, he being from Jamshedpur, is unable to garner sufficient votes. It was terrible when he was bracketed in the bottom six owing to scarcity of votes. It would be absolutely tragic if he were to be eliminated altogether. Now that the competition gets stiffer, he needs all our support to buttress his talent and single-minded hard work. Please heed this appeal and v
