Jamshedpur, Dec. 4 (Source-The Telegraph): He was always the role model for wannabe singers in his hometown, but now Rajdeep Chatterjee (in picture by Srinivas) has taken a baby step towards becoming a national idol. The 17-yr-old sangeet prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, has made it to the Indian Idol (season four) gala final, where he will have to engage 13 other participants in a musical war to win the title. Rajdeep’s father, T.K. Chatterjee, said with television producers and workers’ associations in Mumbai going on a strike, the show was on hold for a week. But now, though the ambience was conducive to anything but music, all Rajdeep could think of was only music. “He practised meditation and yoga to keep his nerve,” said Chatterjee. “The strike has been a boon for him. It gave him a chance to learn more about music from the esteemed judges.” The new episodes of Indian Idol 4 will be on air from tomorrow. Till now, Rajdeep’s parents said they were happy with the voting bit, but now they are a little sceptical. “Had it been up to the judges to decide who’s the best, it would have been much better. People of India are so unpredictable when it comes to voting,” said Chatterjee. Corporate giants such as Tata Steel are doing their bit to boost his chances by putting up billboards across the steelcity urging people to vote for the teenager. “We are trying to help the kid. It is the people of the state and the city who will feel happy if Rajdeep wins the show,” said Sanjay Chowdhury, the chief of corporate communications, Tata Steel.
