In due course of time various communities, though forming a part of mainstream of the town’s life, grouped together to preserve their culture heritage and identity. As a result, we find different communities. One such organization is the ‘Utkal Association’, which has celebrated its Golden Jubilee on August 15, 1986.
The utkal association was founded by Mr. John Lawrence Keenan on November 24, 1934 with initiative of the late C.N.Mohanty Late Lainadri Das, Late Sarat Pal, Mr.B.N.Patnayak, Mr.D.N. Behera and others. Despite having undergone the changes from time to time, the association has remained firm in its declared object of cherishing and furthering the cultural heritage of Oriyas.
The question of cultural affinity of Jamshedpur with the Oriya can be traced from the day-to-day affairs of the people. Their festivals, the art, music, the temples, speak themselves about the affinity of the culture with Oriyas.
Since ‘Ma Paudi’ came to Singhbhum during the reign of Maharaja Kashiram Singh, she has been installed in the heart of every citizen of Sinha Bhumi (Singhbhum), Ma Paudi has been the symbol of unity, which is evident from the Anthropological papers.
The main activities of the association is to project the various aspects of Oriya culture in the fields of Music, dance, Jatra and Drama. The Jatra Ghata of Kharswan, the part of Bamanghattey the kalika ghat or Kara abd Chhaw Dance of Saraikella are famous.
