Jamshedpur, April 3: Tanushree Dutta’s bad days are behind her. For the time being, at least.

The former Miss India, who’s a regular fixture in many a mainstream Bollywood movie, has found support within the industry after Raj Thackeray and his party men urged producers to blacklist her and demanded that she leave Mumbai.

“I am not going anywhere,” Tanushree told The Telegraph from Mumbai.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena attack came in the aftermath of an on-the-sets controversy where Tanushree rebuked Horn Ok Please co-star Nana Patekar over some raunchy dance steps.

“A lot of people from my industry have come forward in my support and a lot of people appreciated the fact that I stood up for myself and spoke,” the actress added.

“That is something I am very happy about. It also made it very clear who my real friends are in Mumbai. These are people who I have worked with. More importantly, these are people who I was about to work with.”

The incident, if anything, has taught Tanushree to be a bit selective with her Bollywood projects. “When I sign new projects, I should be more careful about the culture and background of the people involved rather than their commercial viability… it’s important to know where they are coming from.”

Tanushree admits that it won’t be easy to erase memories of that “nightmarish day”. “It would be there at the back of my mind but it’s a chance I don’t mind taking. Because after all this is the time I need to find out whether it is worth all this. I will come to know who are the kind of people I would want to work with and which are the kind of people I do not even want to look at. This is the time where other people have to prove themselves in terms of their relationships towards me.”

So there’s no stepping back from the Jamshedpur girl. “No way! I think this incident was followed keenly by a lot of people, especially the youth. A lot of young people are looking up to me. I am sure I am a source of inspiration for a lot of people having come from such a humble background and made it to Bollywood. Me giving up wouldn’t be fair to them.”

Apprehensions about future projects? “Not really,” said the actress, who is proud of not having a godfather in Bollywood.

“I have worked hard to get wherever I have got. Luckily I have always had a very clean reputation as far as my work goes. How else would a girl from Jamshedpur with no background whatsoever and from an extremely simple family get to work in Bollywood and get such good projects?”
