Jamshedpur, March 26: The state might soon have its first state-of-the-art traffic park in the steel city. In an effort to make the people of the city aware of the traffic rules and regulations, the East Singhbhum district administration has written a letter to Jusco for setting up such a park in the city. Deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum Nitin Madan Kulkarni told The Telegraph: “According to the proposal, the park would have everything including roads, signals and everything else pertaining to traffic.” However, East Singhbhum administration officials said Jusco is yet to reply on the matter. The East Singhbhum district administration in its proposal has even mentioned a plot of land in Baridih which is lying vacant and would be made available for the construction of the park, said officials. Sources pointed out that a similar park was sanctioned a long time ago in the state capital and if things go right, the park would be the first of its kind not only in Jamshedpur but also in the state. On the other hand, the East Singhbhum district administration would write to all the city-based schools to include a three-hour module from Class VI onwards based on traffic rules and regulations. The three-hour module which has been developed by Safety Awareness for Everyone (SAFE) would deal with the nitty-gritty of traffic rules. He added that apart from showcasing the module, there would also be an interactive session with the school- children. Once the module has been shown in all the schools, feedback and necessary suggestions from the principals would be gathered based on which further improvements would be made in the programme. The East Singhbhum district administration is also gearing up for holding the Road Safety Week from April 23-29 in collaboration with SAFE. A four-member delegation met Kulkarni to discuss the matter. Apart from hosting various programmes during the week like extempore, painting competition among others, special emphasis would be laid on involving the auto and mini bus drivers. “I have asked the officials concerned to contact the auto drivers and mini bus drivers’ association and ensure their participation as the road safety week would directly involve them. Their participation has to be ensured for our programme,” added Kulkarni.
