Jamshedpur, March 26: A 10-member team from South Korea-based Posco Engineering and Construction Company Limited visited Jamshedpur today as a part of a survey programme. The team led by Yang Seung Youl, the company’s general manager, visited Delhi Public School and other prominent educational institutes in the region. “The team was here to check if there are possibilities of a tie-up with DPS, Jamshedpur, so that both parties can get into bi-lateral agreements in the education sector in the region,” said Dhananjay Pan, the school principal. The team today visited the DPS’s new Turiabera campus some 4km from the steel city. The move, however, was read as an CSR initiative by some observers. “The Posco officials did check whether their employees’ children could get admission in schools in this region after their Orissa plants come up,” Pan added. Earlier this week the team reportedly also visited DPS, Bhubaneswar. Insiders at the school, however, believe that the tie-up would be more on the lines of other international link-ups that the DPS chain enjoys with schools in the UK, South Africa and other countries. Once finalised, DPS is expected to raise its students’ number to accommodate the Korean children and also make provisions for their accommodation. “If plans fall in place, such changes should be easy,” added the principal. The two partners have also decided to launch some other programmes together. “We have decided to enter into an agreement with South Korean schools. After such a tie-up students and teachers’ exchange programmes may be started,” added Pan. The team is expected to submit their final plan of action to DPS within a week. Though none of the team members could be contacted, it was suggested that Youl was happy with what he saw. On April 2, DPS Jamshedpur would shift its base from the present campus to its more sprawling address at Turiabera along NH-33. Spread over 24 acres, the state-of-the-art building with swimming pool and multiple play grounds has already stunned many. “We will shift students from Class III onwards. The primary wing would remain at the present address along with the hostels which would be shifted to the new campus after two years,” added Pan.
