Jamshedpur, March 26: It is an actor’s responsibility to make the character of a play on the stage seem real. Veteran theatre artiste Ashok Mukhopadhyay conveyed this view to the participants of a daylong workshop conducted for drama enthusiasts at the Centre for Excellence today. “It is essential to properly use time and space during the enactment of a play. It can be said it is the director’s onus to ensure that the subject gets a proper treatment through the play,” said Mukhopadhyay, addressing the enthusiasts gathered at the workshop. Tactfully answering que-stions from the eager enthu-siasts, Mukhopadhyay was his usual composed self during his interaction with the participants. A practical demonstration of acting also followed the otherwise theoretical workshop. The senior theatre and television personality imparted training in honing acting skills apart from giving tips on training the body, voice and mind of the actor. “All of these finer aspects contribute to make the character convincing. Credibility becomes the most important part during role enactment on stage,” said the artiste. Laying a lot of importance on voice modulation, he said the entire presentation can be made interesting by incorporating elements of audio and visual effects. “Theatre is nothing but expression of the innermost feelings. The person who is able to do it with conviction is best suited to be a stage artiste,” he said. Today was the penultimate day of the theatre workshop that started here on March 23. Earlier, a workshop was conducted by thespian Dolly Basu.
