Jamshedpur, March 25: Water problems in Bagan area of the steel city would end soon as Jusco is planning to introduce round-the-clock water supply.

In its latest initiative, Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco), a subsidiary of Tata Steel, has decided to supply 24-hour water supply in areas where households install water meters.

“We are working out the plan to begin with round-the-clock water supply in several parts of the city if we complete installation of the water meters,” said Rajesh Rajan, the head of corporate communications, Jusco.

So far over 4,000 water meters have been installed across the city. This morning Jusco officials resumed installation after a gap of over 40 days at Ulliyan and Kadma where installation was stopped due to protests from certain factions of people in the city.

Jusco officials said that this time the local residents approached the company and requested that water meters be installed at their homes. Over 18 water meters were installed today at Nirmal Mahto Path and Ram Path area in Kadma catering to over a 100 heads in the area.

The move is expected to end water problems in non-Jusco areas which, till now, received water twice a day for an hour each. In the summer months, the frequency increased to thrice daily.

“So far, Kailashnagar and Namda slum areas have started receiving 24-hour water supply for we installed 100 per cent water meters here,” said Rajan.

The other areas where the company has achieved their cent per cent target are Gurdwara slum area in Bistupur, Nehru Colony, parts of Sonari, Shastrinagar, BH Area, Kadma and New Baradwari.
